About Retro•pulser (old)

The name retro·pulser comes from my time in Functional Neurology rehab and the terminology they use to describe your symptoms. One of my chronic ongoing symptoms was that when I tried to stand still I would slowly drift backwards, come forwards a bit, then drift backwards more. Rinse and Repeat. Eventually I would do a “controlled fall” to the ground.

The clinical lingo used to describe this movement disorder (not the falling into someone’s arms) is retropulsing in a smooth direction. The term retro, refers to the backwards movement and pulsing refers to the back and forth motion. Kind of like going 2 steps back and 1 step forward, except replace the word step with falling. In December 2014, I was diagnosed with Mal de Debarqument Syndrome and my symptoms have dramatically decreased after beginning treatment.

Thus, I am, or was a retropulser.
